About the program
Mastering Mentoring adopts a two-stream approach, one focusing on upskilling mentors to guide and support mentees effectively, the other preparing mentees to maximize their mentoring experiences. The program’s advantages are its:
Modular Approach: Time-poor mentors and mentees can easily dip in and out of the modules, making it easier for them to engage with training and increasing the potential for improved take-up.
Pedagogically sound: The program is created with Epigeum’s standard pedagogy of using engaging, interactive activities to create structured, high-quality, academically rigorous training.
- Consistency: Mastering Mentoring can be used across all departments ensuring consistency across the university and providing consistent training to mentors and mentees helps align expectations, creating a more harmonious relationship.
Real-Life Examples and Case Studies: The course includes multidisciplinary examples, inspiring stories, and video interviews featuring researchers from diverse disciplines and career stages.
Personalization: Participants can reflect on their unique contexts and choose their path through the program. Activities are designed to align with specific disciplines, career stages, and national contexts.
Practical Resources: Downloadable conversation guides and reflective activities will help participants establish effective meeting dynamics and deepen their mentoring relationships.
The development group process
Epigeum’s programs are developed in close collaboration with universities through our Development Group. Joining this group offers a unique opportunity to influence the program’s content and secure a campus-wide license in perpetuity.
- Subject experts, such as authors and reviewers, shape the vision for the program and a Lead Advisor is commissioned to offer strategic vision and leadership, alongside authors
- Institutions are invited to join the development group
- Participating institutions, authors, peer reviewers, lead advisor(s) and the Epigeum team all come together at a workshop to refine the plans and discuss key issues and topics
- The authors develop course materials, incorporating feedback from the workshop discussions
- Development group members and experts peer-review the materials
- We collaborate with individuals from our development group institutions who share their expertise in recorded video interviews which are then added into the program
- Revisions are made and the final program is checked and tested
- The program is launched, and development group members’ campus-wide licenses are activated
